The team at Three Birds Renovations has had plenty of exciting and memorable design highlights in the last few years. A recent opportunity to renovate a holiday home for legendary Australian surfer Mick Fanning and his wife Bree was certainly one of them.
The home, Rolling Seas, is a stunning beachfront property on the sunny Gold Coast, and includes a main house and accompanying cottage. Mick and Bree reached out to the Three Birds team for some furnishing and styling assistance to maximise the property’s appeal as a holiday rental.
Mick and Bree had actually lived in this home for years, but now with a toddler in tow, felt it was time to move to a larger home nearby, and keep this special beachfront residence as a rental.
As always, Luxaflex window coverings played a key role in the project, and the team created a six-episode series about the renovation which you can watch here.
Flooded with natural light and offering spectacular ocean views, this room is very much the heart of this home. The team chose Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings for this space as they provide privacy and sun protection, without obstructing the magnificent view to the outside.
An exclusive Luxaflex product, Pirouette Shadings feature softly contoured, front-facing fabric vanes attached to a single sheer backing. During opening and closing, the vanes move in tandem for a fluid, graceful effect. They also have a smart sheer backing, which means they are completely see-through when angled open.
When pulled up, the Pirouette Shadings also sit neatly within the upper window cavity, meaning they don’t interrupt the indoor-outdoor flow.
The team chose Satin fabric in Magnolia colour to create a bright, beachy feel, as well as translucent opacity – to maximise the view across the balcony to the ocean.
For extra softness and sophistication, The Three Birds team also added a Luxaflex® sheer S-Wave curtain in Chloe fabric and in Mist colour.
Both the curtains and the Pirouette Shadings were installed with a EasyRise manual mode of operation, which the team felt was most suitable for a rental property.
Formerly Mick Fanning’s trophy room, this space was transformed into a multifunctional area for holiday guests – a bedroom/lounge combination.
Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings were also chosen for this space––though in room darkening opacity to enable guests to enjoy a nap, or watch TV or movies. When not required, the shades can then be completely opened to allow plenty of light to flow in.
The EasyRise manual operating system was also used with these shadings.
A sheer S-Wave Luxaflex® Curtain was also added to the space to add softness and texture.
