Automated blinds – how they can add value to your home

We have joined this innovative trend by developing Luxaflex^® PowerView^® Automation, which is available with several blinds across our range. Blinds equipped with Luxaflex^® PowerView^® Automation are becoming increasingly popular. Here’s a quick overview of how this works, and why it’s becoming more sought-after.

How it works

PowerView^® Automation is a smart home automation solution that allows you to control your blinds (as well as a range of other window coverings) via an app, tablet, remote or even with voice activation. 

PowerView^® Automation allows you to create customised ‘scenes’ for your home. You can schedule these scenes to adjust your blinds automatically, so you don’t have to manually open or close them.  

How to use it

There are a few different ways to create and adjust the ‘scenes’ within your PowerView^® Automation. These include:

The PowerView^® App

This is the starting point to the entire PowerView® system. Control your PowerView® enabled blinds through the app – available on the App Store. With a PowerView® Gateway, you can see your blinds on the app even when you’re on holidays or away from home, and you can adjust your window coverings remotely.

PowerView® Pebble® Remote

This is a stylish handheld control It allows you to adjust your blinds on the fly to block the glare on a TV set, open to the view, or lower your blinds for privacy without lifting more than a finger. It’s also available in three new modern neutral colours to suit every room in your home. 

Voice activation

You can also voice-activate your PowerView^® Automation scenes using one of the following: 

• Apple HomeKit^® technology - an easy, secure way to control your Luxaflex blinds. You can use the Apple^® Home app and Siri^® on your iPhone^®, iPad^®, Apple Watch^®, Mac^®, or HomePod^®. 
• Amazon^® Alexa^® – as well as asking yours to play music or check the weather, you can now ask it to control your Luxaflex blinds. 
• Google^® Assistant - powered by Google Home^®, the Google Assistant also makes it easy to activate your PowerView^® scenes and control your blinds with your voice. 

Why automated blinds are increasingly popular

Blinds equipped with PowerView^® Automation can be beneficial for several reasons:  

Security
With  PowerView^® Automation, you can set your blinds to open and close at certain times of the day. This can help create the illusion that someone is home when you’re working late, out for the evening, or on holidays. You also don’t have to set the same time every day – you can create variation for extra authenticity to deter potential burglars.  

Convenience
Rather than manually opening and closing all of the blinds in your home, you can either use your remote, or pre-configure your blinds to open or close in accordance with your daily schedule. This is particularly useful if you have a large home equipped with lots of blinds.    

Enhanced efficiency
By programming your blinds to open and close when the sunlight is at its strongest/weakest, you can also keep your interiors warmer or cooler – depending on the season.  

Safety
Even though blinds with PowerView^® Automation do not have lift cords, they’re also a safer option than shades with exposed cords.
